In 2023, Professor Richard Larson asked INFORMS to publish his book, Model Thinking for Everyday Life. And I was asked to design the cover, to which I immediately agreed. His intended subtitle of the book was “Working Wonders with a Blank Sheet of Paper.” Dr. Larson is a professor of operations research, which is taught in many engineering schools. So to honor his nod to hand made, I made the letters for the title out of engineering graph paper, and wrote the second part in pencil.
Also included on the back cover was a standard #2 pencil, which was explicitly asked for in the design. It was an honor to work with a giant in the field of operations research.
