I am the Creative Director for INFORMS, and am responsible for print, web, and social media to tell the story of how our members are saving the world. In my free time, I love to read about design, am a type geek, and am a foodie who occasionally gets a chance to run a couple of miles.
If asked to define “Mary Leszczynski” style, what would I say?
- A strong grid, adherence to the rules, and creations of systems, but the knowledge of when and why to throw that out the window.
- I have a simple, clean, and modern style that is thoroughly researched and infused with meaning.
- I appreciate attention to small details.
- When faced with “lazy” design, I’m disappointed by the what could have been.
- The first pass is usually not never the best solution.
- The realization that 98% of what I do ends up in the trashcan.
- The best design advice I ever received was, “It’s good, but you can do much better.”
- Understand the audience you are designing for, then push past that to make them slightly uncomfortable.
